Local events
In and around Biddinghuizen, in addition to beautiful nature, Walibi amusement park and charming villages, there is also plenty to do in terms of events! Throughout the year, numerous fun activities and festivals are organised for young and old. View the overview of events in the area.
Sand Sculptures
In 2026, the Romans will travel to the Veluwe. At Zandsculpturen Garderen, the entire exhibition is dedicated to the Roman Empire. More than one hundred sand sculptures bring to life a world of emperors and gladiators, legionaries, craftsmen, merchants, and ordinary citizens living along the borders of the vast empire.
The route leads you past impressive scenes, informative displays, and surprising details for young and old alike.
The exhibition can be seen from March 2026 up to and including the Christmas holidays of 2027 at De Beeldentuin in Garderen.
Het Grote Vrijheid Festival
The festival opens its doors on May 5 at 12:00 PM. From that moment on, there will be alternating live music on the main stage, while a DJ provides a lively and festive atmosphere throughout the event. Children can enjoy the kids’ area, which offers fun activities such as a game of table football, a workshop on the theme of ‘Freedom’, or, of course, a bouncy castle.
Aaltjesdagen
From June 12 to 14, 2026, Harderwijk will be dedicated to the Aaltjesdagen. The festival offers a great impression of what Harderwijk has to offer in terms of tourism, culture, history, and relaxation, and attracts around 50,000 visitors each year. As the opening of the busy tourist season, there is something to experience in almost every part of the city: music, (water) sports, dance, markets, traditional crafts, and botters.
